Brookfield Blood Drive Offers Chance to Help Patients in Need

According to the Brookfield Lions Club, a local blood drive is coming up later this month, giving people in the community an easy opportunity to help save lives with a relatively small investment of their time.

The Brookfield Lions Club is teaming up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive on Wednesday, August 26, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Fellowship Hall at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, located at 160 Whisconier Road.

The message behind the drive is pretty simple: Give a little, save a life. Blood donations are constantly needed, and a single donation can potentially help multiple patients who are dealing with serious medical situations, surgeries, accidents, illnesses and other emergencies.

Whether you’ve been donating blood for years or have never donated before, this is an opportunity to do something that could have a direct impact on someone else’s life. And you don’t necessarily have to know who you’re helping. That’s kind of the point.

Appointments are encouraged, and you can schedule yours by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, which is 1-800-733-2767. You can also visit the American Red Cross website and enter the sponsor code “BrookfieldCT” to find the blood drive and reserve a time.

There’s also a little extra incentive for donors. According to the information provided by the Red Cross, people who donate during August may be eligible to receive a $20 Amazon.com Gift Card by email, while the promotional supply lasts. Obviously, the gift card is nice, but the bigger reward is knowing you took some time out of your day to potentially help someone who desperately needs it.
