Have you ever heard of Steak 'n Shake? There aren't any in Connecticut, or anywhere in New England, but they've tried in the past 20 years. I just went to one in Ohio, and I think it may be time for Connecticut to give this franchise a chance here in New England.

You will discover a new world 500 miles from Connecticut: mid and southern America. The land of beef, corn, taters, Dr. Pepper, jerky, and Buc-ee's. We have Wahlburgers, McDonalds, 5 Guys, Wendy's, Bobby Flay, Burger King, Sonic, Ted's, Plan B, and Johnny Rocket's for our cheaper burger joints. I'm kind sick of the taste of all. So, on a recent 3,000-mile road trip, my wife and I vowed to not eat anything that we could get here at home. One of the fast-food places that impressed us was Steak 'n Shake. The menu is simple, yet different. Steak burgers, chili, butter, and garlic burgers, and almost 20 varieties of shakes.

Steak 'n Shake has been around a long time, it was founded in Illinois in the 1930's, and now have just under 500 restaurants across the Mid-Atlantic, West and South. The closest locations to us are in D.C., Virginia, and Ohio. During the 2010's Steak 'n Shake tried to make it's way here with restaurants that opened, and ultimately failed, in New York City, North Adams, Massachusetts, three in New Jersey, and 2 in Pennsylvania.

They make a damn tasty fast-food burger, all of our neighbors have failed at giving an almost 100-year-old competitor a foothold in this precious stronghold of the corporate giants. Maybe a franchisee among us?
