Well this is new.

The one thing were usually regularly good at is pizza. All of us here in Connecticut are pretty sick of talking about it because it's just a known thing. Yes, we know New Haven has great pizza. Yes, we know that everyone fights over which place is better. Yes, we know we are spoiled and have all of the best places right around each other. One of the few things Connecticut is positively known for from other states is specifically our pizza, so when I saw the results of Yelp's Top 100 Pizza Spots in 2024, I was very surprised.

The list was created from Yelp Elites which is their most passionate and trusted reviewers and influencers. I decided to take a look at the list pretty much expecting for Connecticut to sit at the top since it usually does. If it's not in the top 3, it's usually in the top 5.

As I began scrolling, I hadn't seen Connecticut once. First I passed top 10, then top 20, then top 30 and I was confused. After scrolling through the entire list, I saw my first mention of Connecticut at number 57 where Modern Pizza sat. After that, BAR came in at number 77 and Mystic Pizza at number 85.

Connecticut not being mentioned until number 57 is crazy. What's even crazier? Absolutely no mention of Sally's or Pepe's. I can't remember the last time I saw a list without one of those pizza places on it. It's not the end of the world, I was just genuinely surprised.

The number 1 pizza place on Yelp's list was Pequod's Pizzeria in Chicago. I've never had it, but Chicago is most definitely known for their unique pizza so I am not going to question it. Bestia in LA came in at number 2 and Lombardi's Pizza in New York came in at number 3.

It looks like we have to up our pizza game if we want to make next year's list. If you're interested in seeing all 100 places, you can check it out here.

Five Businesses That We Will Never, Ever See Here in Connecticut

You can get almost anything that your heart desires in the State of Connecticut, except for the products produced by these five national retailers and fast-food companies. The only way to enjoy anything from the following places is traveling out of Connecticut, or ordering it on Amazon, and a burger isn't the same after jetting across country.
