According to a release from the Danbury Police Department, residents and people who work in the city have a pretty cool opportunity coming up if they’ve ever wondered what really goes on behind the scenes at the local police department.

The Danbury Police Department is once again offering its Citizen Police Academy, a program designed to give regular people a closer look at how modern policing actually works. The academy is open to Danbury residents, business owners in the city, and anyone who works within city limits. Even better, there’s no fee to participate.

Before anyone gets too excited, this isn’t a program that turns civilians into police officers. The goal is simply to give people a better understanding of how the department operates, the procedures officers follow, and the challenges they face every day. It’s also meant to build stronger connections between the police and the community they serve.

Participants will meet one night a week for eight weeks, starting Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Classes run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and continue every Tuesday evening through May 12. During that time, attendees will get an inside look at a variety of police work, including patrol procedures, crime scene investigations, traffic enforcement, and specialized units like SWAT and K-9.

From what the department says, the program is designed to be interactive. Participants won’t just sit in a classroom listening to lectures. They’ll also get the chance to role-play scenarios and see firsthand some of the tools officers use in the field. The academy is open to anyone 18 or older who wants to learn more about what policing in Danbury really looks like.

Now I should mention something here. I’m actually pals with Sgt. Relyea from the Danbury Police Department, and he’s awesome. He reached out to me personally to help get the word out about the Citizen Police Academy, and I’m more than happy to do it.

I did tell him I’d gladly sign up myself, but only under one condition: they had to give me a gun and let me arrest people.

While Sgt. Relyea is a very cool guy, he immediately shut that idea down and said that is absolutely not happening. Honestly, that’s probably a great sign for the community. The Danbury Police Department is clearly saying no to unhinged humans like me, and that’s exactly the kind of judgment you want from the people running the Citizen Police Academy.

Exclusive Photos, Videos, and Interviews on the Set of New Milford Horror Movie

"Candlewood" is a horror film that just finished filming in New Milford, CT. This is how the filmmakers described the project on their Indiegogo:

"Candlewood is the first movie of three in the psychological/horror feature film franchise. A blended family moves from the city to a small town in Connecticut, where a local urban legend adds chaos and terror to an already fragile family dynamic. The staunch patriarch, who desperately wants his family to not see him as a failure but as the father that did everything, he could to keep his family together through difficult times. Candlewood follows a family leaving New York City for a simpler life in the country town of New Milford, CT. The haunting and mysterious true stories of missing hikers near a popular state park, Lover's Leap, coupled with the town of Jerusalem sitting at the bottom of Candlewood Lake gives credibility to our narrative. We bring to life the struggle of good vs evil and what happens when lifelong, outdated traditions are challenged."

A while back I got in touch with the folks behind the movie, invited them on the I-95 Morning Show with Ethan, Lou and Dave and talked about the film, and shooting in New Milford. We spoke with Director Myke Furhman and Writer/Executive Producer Victoria Flores-Argue. During that discussion, I demanded to be in the movie, telling the duo that I have some experience acting on TV shows that never actually made it onto TV. Against all odds, they did invite me to participate and I visited the set on October 20th to shoot a scene that is important. I was extremely nervous and I had zero idea of what I was in for. Below are some insider moments from my day on-set and from others.
