Get ready Denmo's, your weekend lines are about to get a little longer.

The summer of '25 should be a good one for some lucky Town of Southbury employees, quite a few municipal workers will be able to enjoy long three-day weekends due to an innovative work practice that the town recently announced.

According to Southbury's First Selectman Jeff Manville, the town will be implementing a new four-day workweek pilot program for Southbury Town Hall and Senior Center employees this summer. This temporary shift in workdays and hours will take effect as of June 1, and last for most of the upcoming summer, 'til August 31. Unfortunately for some of Southbury's municipal workers, like Public Works and Parks and Recreation department workers, they will remain on their current scheduled work hours.

How Will Southbury's Four-Day Workweek Pilot Program Work?

This sounds like a great idea, basically participating employees will still have to work the same 40 hours a week that they have had, but the Monday through Thursday workdays will be expanded by at least an hour or two in order to take Friday off. The Pilot Programs hours for Town Hall and Senior Center employees has been revealed: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8AM - 5PM, and Tuesday's hours are 8AM to 6PM.

The Town of Southbury will listen to feedback from it's employees and residents during the duration of the program, and if it's good for everyone all around? The temporary four-day workweek schedule could be made into the real deal.

Nice thinking Southbury, I'd love a 4-day workweek too.
