Damn event promoters of New Jersey, you thought of one that would work around here perfectly. It's called Paisan Con, and it needs to happen in Waterbury.

If you were in New Milford this weekend, you were with a lot of Gilmore Girls fans. New Milford hosted a fan fest, and a few of the actors from the show were brought in to shake hands, take pictures, and tell behind the scenes stories. The event wasn't centered around food, but coffee was everywhere. How about a celebration of pop culture Italian-American style?

Someone in New Jersey has come up with the brilliant idea to bring a bunch of Italian American film, tv, and sporting heroes all in one place. The event is called Paisan Con, and it's happening May 9-10 in Rutherford, New Jersey. Paisan Con is billed as a celebration of Italian culture, with food, live music, and Q&A's with the invited guests. Most of the actors scheduled to appear have been in The Sopranos, Goodfellas, and The Godfather, like Vincent 'Johnny Sack' Curatola, 'Agent Harris' Matt Servitto, and David 'Richie Aprile' Proval. Some of the other recognizable names booked to appear are boxers Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini and Vinny 'The Pazmanian Devil' Paz.

Waterbury would be a perfect host for a Paisan Con in Connecticut. Danbury hosts the San Gennaro Festival, and it makes me want more. I love celebrating our heritage, and I think about the Italian Festivals that were held at Lakewood Park in the 80's, and how much I enjoy the OLMC feast every year. A Paisan Con in Waterbury would kill. Please, make this happen.
