Fresh air, hiking trails and crystal-clear bodies of water, there is nothing like a day out in nature but it's not in the cards for every community. A company called RV Share recently released the results of a new study that set out to find the most and least outdoor friendly cities in America and one Connecticut city landed on the wrong side of the list.

First let's examine the positive.

The Most Outdoor-Friendly Cities in the U.S:

1. Seattle, WA

2. Denver, CO

3. Grand Rapids, MI

4. Miami, FL

5. Portland, OR

6. Nashville, TN

7. San Francisco, CA

8. Richmond, VA

9. Los Angeles, CA

10. Charlotte, NC

The Least Outdoor-Friendly Cities in the U.S:

1. Houston, TX

2. Rochester, NY

3. Hartford, CT

4. Tulsa, OK

5. Milwaukee, WI

6. Oklahoma City, OK

7. Detroit, MI

8. Buffalo, NY

9. Raleigh, NC

10. Fresno, CA

I disagree completely, I think there are plenty of outdoor activities Hartford has to offer. Instead of Freeze tag you can play games like tag your favorite building. In the place of dodgeball you can dodge cars ignoring pedestrian crosswalks and my personal favorite is aggravated assault hopscotch. You just need to use your imagination and the possibilities are endless.

Methodology:

RV Share only included metro areas with at least 1 million people and examined metrics like:

  • Number of days to participate in outdoor recreation
  • Types of outdoor activities to participate in
  • Proximity and access to state and municipal parks and land
  • Rankings for access to outdoor rec

There were more categories but you get the idea, Hartford did not score well in any of them. I guess I'm lucky living in the Greater-Danbury area, there are a ton of things to outside. That said, nothing is more annoying than a friend who asks you to go hiking on a Sunday morning. Why would I waste a perfectly good Sunday walking in the woods when we could just go to brunch for bottomless mimosas?

7 of The Most Dangerous Cities to Be in Connecticut After Dark

What are CT's Most Dangerous Cities? To get there, I went back to see prior lists and then took a look see what published reports had come out already for 2023. The most recent was from a company called House Grail. Like so many companies today, they used third party data to develop reports that we'll all read. The more people that read it, the more look into their business. As a consumer (a set of eyeballs) I think it is one of the most effective and digestible marketing tools. The statistics they shared come from FBI. These are 7 of The Most Dangerous Cities to Be in Connecticut After Dark:
