Temporary Summerlong Closure Coming for Rt. 202 in Litchfield

Hi fellow 202 commuters, it's time: The warning signs are up, most of the heavy prep is complete, and now a summerlong closure for one of Litchfield's busiest roadways has been set to begin.

According to townoflitchfield.org, RT. 202 will be temporarily closed to all traffic for the replacement of the bridge over Still Brook in the area just East of Merritt Clarke's in Bantam from Monday, June 16 to Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Over the course of the last year or so you've seen the workers out there prepping and digging the site out for this massive project. Over the past 6 months new flashing speed limit signs have been installed reminding drivers of the 30MPH pace you're supposed to maintain through the center of town. It's not an easy area to work, and the detour around this project looks to be a boost for West Shore Seafood, Wood's Pit, and Merritt Clarke's.

The detour route has not been posted, but I saw a covered 'Detour' sign with a left pointing arrow in the area of The Market - Bantam that will direct drivers down Bantam Lake Rd/209. From what I can tell, traffic will have to go down past West Shore Seafood to Benedict Road to make their way up Stoddard Road to West Morris Road for the duration of the Summer of 25. How long will this temporary detour take you to get around? Obviously it depends on traffic, but the potential is there for some inconveniences.

This is the way I get to work between Brookfield and Torrington, I'll update as the closure gets underway.
