When is it Too Late in the Year to Wear Shorts in Connecticut?
Today is Saturday, September 28, and the temperature in Torrington is 56 degrees. My wife thinks it's time for my doughy white calves to go away for the season, but I feel it's still too warm. When is it too late in the year to wear shorts in Connecticut?
Do you feel strange when you go against the traditional fashion sense of wearing shorts after Labor Day? Does it matter what anyone wears at any time of the year, as long as they're comfortable? That's what I believe. The cold never really bothered me In my 20's, I'd wear shorts and a t-shirt to shovel snow after storms. Now I'm in my mid 50's, and I admit, I've worn a hoodie when it's 85 degrees and sunny. My temperature sensitivity certainly has changed as I've aged, I don't think that I wore gloves throughout most of my life, but now? My fingers and toes get numb when it goes below freezing, and I've adapted. Shorts are another story, it's outside temperature dependent.
I think that Connecticut gets cold enough in November, right before Thanksgiving, for my treasured shorts to take a rest. A high temperature of 40 degrees is my cutoff. My legs and feet just can't retain any warmth when it gets below 40. Just thinking, is there a set date, or temperature, for US postal workers and UPS employees to switch from shorts to pants?
November to February is my no shorts window, but it's Connecticut, home of the occasional 72 degree Christmas Eve and Valentine's Day. I reserve the right to show off my pasty ankle year-round.
